About the shop

Atlas Books opened in 1998 when two librarians wanted a neighborhood bookstore in Ashford. We are still independent and still on Mercer Street — same floor plan, more chairs.

Our inventory focuses on literary fiction, essays, poetry, and regional history. We keep a small children's section and a table of used hardcovers from regular customers who trade for store credit.

What we believe

The shop is worker-managed. We hold monthly meetings in the back office and split decisions about inventory, events, and hours.
